What is self-compassion art? Good question! It’s a form of therapeutic art. When you make art to help yourself emotionally, mentally and spiritually, it is therapeutic.
Specifically, making art for one of these purposes is a way of bolstering ourselves in these areas.
We do this in 2 parts. The first part is to make the art that relaxes and soothes us. Remember, no judgement, just playing with art materials to create interesting colors, patterns and shapes.
The second part is where we reflect on what we need and write encouraging words, phrases or sentences to remind us that we can tap into the source of what we need within us.
When speaking of self-compassion, we’re talking about how we talk to ourselves. Do we berate ourselves for things we have or haven’t done? For the way we are or behave? Or do we congratulate ourselves for who we are becoming? Are we cheerleaders for our accomplishments? It may be hard to do, but we have the capacity to find small moments of caring, acting kindly, even cheering ourselves on!
When you’re writing the sentences, imagine you are talking to your inner self. For example, I love you just the way you are! Use I and you in your sentences.
Here are some examples of self-compassion sentences:
I know you’ll be ok. I’m rooting for your happiness. You’re such a joy to me.
Be as comforting and soothing as you imagine a parent, grandparent or best friend is.
If you’d like to join me on the self-compassion art-making journey, I have an online course for it. It’s under the Programs tab. It’s called Self-Compassion Geode. I’m also offering 50% off during fall with a discount code: FALL50OFF.
I wish you wellness!
